此后，John Lee Hooker还在辛辛那提与一个4人福音乐队合作了10个年头。 应该说底特律才是让John Lee Hooker真正开始展露头脚的地方。Hastings大街是底特律黑人聚集最多的地方，这里有一些经常演出布鲁斯音乐的酒吧，John Lee Hooker经常参与这种演出，他鲜明的音乐特点越来越引人注目。
